BACH FLOWER REMEDIES: ADMINISTRATION OF BACH FLOWER REMEDIES – COMBINATION MEDICINES
If more than one medicines are administered simultaneously, they are called combination medicines. In the above case Mimulus and Scleranthus when taken simultaneously are to all intents and purposes taken as combination medicine.
If however, 1/2 dram of Mimulus globules is mixed with 1 /2 dram of Scleranthus globules is mixed in a phial which is violently shaken, this forms a combination medicine of 2 components – Mimulus and Scleranthus. 4-6 globules from this combination is as effective as the two medicines taken separately or when combined for every dose.
However, the proper method of making the combination remedy is to impregnate 1 Dram phial with No 20 globules with 3 drops each from Mimulus and Scleranthus remedies and shake it violently.
If No 30 globules are used instead of No 20 then 2 or 3 globules will form one dose.
It is not advisable to make combination remedy of more than 3 components. If 5 or 6 remedies appear to be required in a certain case then 2 combination medicines of 2 or 3 remedies each may be prepared in 2 treatment bottles.
Depending upon the condition of the patient when the contents of the treatment bottles get exhausted, the same combination or an altered combination is prepared afresh.
Occasion may arise during the administration of medicine from the treatment bottles, when some acute condition call for a new medicine. This new medicine need not be added into the regular treatment bottles. It can be given separately 3 or 4 doses a day till the acute condition lasts.

BACH FLOWER REMEDIES: ADMINISTRATION OF BACH FLOWER REMEDIES
DOSE 4 drops of the medicine form one dose which can be dropped straight on the tongue with a dropper or 4 drops of the medicine may be added to a spoonful of water which can be taken as one dose.
Three to four doses a day are usually sufficient in the normal case but in acute cases the dose may be repeated even at 10-15 minute interval.
A more convenient method of administering the remedy is in the form of medicated globules, like homeopathic medicines. 5-6 drops of the medicine in one dram phial filled with No 20 globules are sufficient to energize the globules after violently shaking the phial. 4-6 globules form one dose which is put dry on tongue. The first dose in the day may be taken on empty stomach after rinsing the mouth clean. Other doses may be taken an hour before or after taking meals.
Care should be taken to wash the mouth clean before taking the medicine. Betel-chewing or tabacco chewing without thoroughly washing is not suitable to take in Flower Remedies.
Should it be desirable to give the medicine in liquid form, the globules may be dissolved in a spoonful of water which can be put on the tongue in an open mouth. The liquid medicine should not be gulped down the throat. It must remain in contact with the tongue before passing on to the throat.
If more than one medicines are prescribed, then each medicine can be taken turn by turn at regular intervals. Suppose Mimulus and Sclerantus are prescribed T.D.S for a patient then Mimulus may be taken at 6 A.M, 10 A.M. and 2 P.M. i.e at 4 hrs interval. Scleranthus may be given in between say at 8 A.M, 12 noon and 4 P.M.
Alternatively both remedies may be taken simultaneously – 4 globules each from Mimulus and Scleranthus are taken simultaneously at 4 hours interval daily.

ALPINE PLANTS AND LOWLAND PLANTS – SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTS
Some time ago, Professor Flueck delivered an interesting lecture to members of the Swiss Association of Apothecaries dealing with exactly these observations and the many factors that combine to produce active substances in plants. The lecture was based on the results of experiments in which various medicinal herbs had been grown at different altitudes but in identical soils. The experiments enabled Professor Flueck to prove beyond doubt that the therapeutic value of the plants does not depend solely upon the altitude at which they grow. In order to accurately identify the other factors involved, the experiments were fully controlled; the same plant was grown at different altitudes but in the same kind of soil in every case.
Better growth and content of active substances was achieved with the plants grown in sheltered mountain valleys, exposed to sunshine but protected from the winds, than with those grown at higher altitudes with equal exposure to the sun but unprotected from the winds. For this reason certain plants were found to do better at middle elevations than at higher altitudes. Others produce a higher content of medicinal properties if grown in the shade, or at least semi-shade, but these are usually exceptions to the rule.

THE SKIN – NATURAL BEAUTY CARE (KEEPING HEALTHY…)
Much time is often wasted in efforts to improve one’s looks cosmetically. Yet how much easier it would be to keep the body healthy and, in particular, to take good care of the sex glands right from the start. Their efficiency contributes to maintaining youthfulness longer. For this, sunlight, deep-breathing and exercise are important. Anyone who spends most of his time in heated rooms, rarely moves around in the open air, never goes for walks or hikes or practises some other sport in moderation, should not be surprised if he becomes like a hothouse plant and grows old before his time. Remember, exercise in the open air, perhaps gardening or walking, has much to do with keeping young and fit. Regular showers, alternating between hot and cold water, are also beneficial since they promote good circulation. Recommended, too, are good plant remedies for effective external application, such as Symphosan tincture or Symphytum Cream, and Violaforce. These two remedies, applied in alternation, help to reduce the size of the pores and rejuvenate the skin.

NATURE DOCTOR – OUR TEETH – WHY CORRECT NUTRITION IS NECESSARY
Not only solid food but also wholefood is necessary to keep the teeth healthy, for the blood can only supply the nutrients and materials needed for regeneration and repair that it has available. If we do not take in enough calcium, even the best machinery ready to do the repair work cannot function because the necessary substances are lacking. A bricklayer will not be able to build a strong wall if he does not use enough lime or cement in his mortar. The same principle applies to our teeth. Deficiencies of calcium, vitamin D and fluoride, besides other vital substances, tend to prepare the way for weakness and degeneration.
Such degenerative symptoms, particularly dental caries and also degenerative effects apparent in the jawbone, are the consequences of our modern denatured food, our eating habits and life-style. People in less developed parts of the world, who have not yet been affected by modern ways but live a healthy natural life, generally possess fine teeth.

THE COMPLEX NATURE OF THE CAUSES – SUFFERING AND PAIN (CANCER)
Anyone who has seen the suffering and pain of someone afflicted with cancer of the larynx or lungs will not find it too difficult to give up smoking for ever. If you suffer from rheumatism or arthritis and are sensitive to volcanic influences, you should keep away from radioactive treatments because the water of volcanic springs that are radioactive can also cause cancer.
All in all, do not be overanxious, yet still be sensible and careful. You do not want to do what is harmful while thinking you were doing yourself some good. Strong stimulations can destroy, whereas milder ones can be beneficial.

MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS – VARIOUS APPROACHES TO TREATMENT – A TESTIMONIAL OF SUCCESS
‘Now I can watch television for hours without any difficulty, participate quite normally in conversations, and I read a lot.’
Letters like this one from our Belgian patient are indeed encouraging. They show that if we support nature it has the power to bring about a regeneration even in serious cases of illness. The patient in question had been ill for many years and I am sure that his progress and success would have been better still if the treatment could have been given right from the start. The remedies mentioned by the patient are good for raising the calcium level and curing circulatory disturbances, inflammation and spasms.

COLDS – DURING A CHANGE OF SEASON
It is not unusual to hear complaints about chills and colds when seasonal changes occur. Most people accept them as unavoidable, not realising that it >s really up to us to do something about them. Women seem to be more prone to catching colds, since they are usually more reluctant to exchange their elegant thin stockings for warm or, better still, thick knitted woollen ones. It would indeed be most appropriate to limit the use of elegant apparel in favour of warmer clothing, or even to put it away altogether for the duration of the winter.
The change of season is the most difficult time for the body, for it is still accustomed to the warm summer and unprepared for the sudden onset of cold weather. That is why we must protect the body with whatever clothing is appropriate for the weather. Most important of all, keep the feet warm and, as I have pointed out already, woollen stockings and a pair of good, warm shoes are indispensable if you wish to discourage colds. It is an accepted fact that warm feet and a cool head are necessary for good health. As long as the feet are warm we will hardly ever catch a cold, because the feet are the indicators of the general warmth of the body.

INFECTIOUS SUPPURATION OF THE EYES AND MOUTH 2
As a rule, such infections are simple enough to deal with if the body is given the right kind of help, for nature cures if we support it in its performance. It is better to take no action than to give the wrong treatment. The usual attempts to suppress the symptoms in order to destroy the germs with drugs actually undermine the body’s natural powers of resistance. The same foolishness is shown by those who treat plant diseases and pests. They expect to get rid of them by spraying the plants with poisonous chemicals, but succeed only in weakening or killing the plants’ own natural defence mechanism. So they are forced to increase and intensify their spray programmes. Similarly, some doctors have to prescribe more and stronger drugs because the body’s natural healing powers have been weakened or even destroyed. But we must remember that man is not the healer – it is nature that really performs the cure. All we ourselves can do is support the wonderful, natural self-healing powers of the body. Let us hope that this basic truth becomes once again more widely recognised and appreciated.

WHAT CAN DAMAGE THE BRAIN?
If the blood pressure is either too high or too low it will adversely affect the functioning of the brain. Dizzy spells or fainting, for example, may result from too much pressure or lack of blood flow, due to low blood pressure.
Even though this single most important control centre, the brain, is well protected by the cranium, accidents and concussions can do much damage. Just think of the many falls and bumps experienced while skiing or engaging in other types of sports. On such occasions, the head – and thus the brain — often suffers severe blows or concussion without any visible sign of injury. However, if the fall is bad enough to cause a tear in the meninges, the cerebrospinal fluid will leak out and the brain, which had previously been cushioned by this fluid, will now be more like a dead weight, resulting in pressure being exerted on the various brain centres. The person will feel nauseous, the metabolic centre will be affected, and vomiting and possibly diarrhoea will occur. The patient must lie still and rest so that the tear can heal and the brain may once again enjoy the cushioning and protecting effect of the cerebrospinal fluid surrounding it.
